2019 Jaguar F-Pace vs Porsche Macan

Porsche and Jaguar, two legendary automakers with years of expertise designing among the most luxurious vehicles on the road, have entered the SUV market with a roar. Porsche has offered SUV models as part of its repertoire for several years. Jaguar entered in 2017 with the F-Pace, which quickly became the company's best-selling model.

Cars like the 2019 Porsche Macan and Jaguar F-Pace are two strong offerings to the midsize luxury SUV market. Let's take a closer look at these two vehicles.

For two companies that are known for excellence in sports car design, it is no surprise that the engines on their SUV entries roar to life. While Porsche has not definitively confirmed its U.S. engine lineup, experts expect that the base model will be outfitted with a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four to reach 300 horsepower. The Macan S trim will get a new single-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 engine producing near 350 horsepower, and the Macan Turbo sees a new twin-turbo 2.9-liter V-6 that reaches around 440 horsepower.

The base Jaguar F-Pace is fitted with a 2.0-liter supercharged four-cylinder engine with 247 horsepower. The next level F-Pace Premium, Prestige, Portfolio, and R-Sport trims can be built with this engine as well as a 2.0-liter engine with 296 horsepower or a 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine at 180 horsepower.

The F-Pace S model features a robust supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 reaching a whopping 380 horsepower. In one of the most exhilarating rides on the road, the F-Pace SVR showcases a supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 engine topping out at 550 horsepower.

Both the Macan and F-Pace are generously sized to accommodate five adults comfortably. At 186 inches, the F-Pace is 2 inches longer than the Macan and has an extra 3 inches on its wheelbase at 113.1 inches.

The interior cargo capacity differs between these two SUVs. The Macan has 18 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, increasing to 53 cubic feet with the rear seat folded down. By contrast, the F-Pace provides a generous 34 cubic feet of storage space behind the rear seats, which increases to 64 cubic feet behind the front seats.

While both vehicles are solid, reliable cars, it is always comforting to have the peace of mind of a warranty and maintenance program. Brands like Porsche offer a four-year/50,000-mile warranty on the vehicle and two years on replacement parts and accessories. Porsche's 24-hour roadside assistance program is included up to 50,000 miles. Corrosion protection is offered for 12 years with unlimited mileage.

Jaguar's EliteCare warranty and maintenance program cover new vehicles for five years/60,000 miles, which also includes complimentary scheduled maintenance and roadside assistance. Corrosion protection is provided for six years with unlimited mileage.

If a midsize luxury SUV is on your list, both Porsche and Jaguar's offerings in this segment boast incredible performance, sumptuous luxury, and sleek sophistication. The F-Pace stands out for its multiple powertrain offerings, including a fuel-conscious diesel engine, the spacious cargo space, and the generous warranty and maintenance program.
