2019 Jaguar I-Pace vs Tesla Model X

As prices at the gas station don't appear to be ending their rise anytime soon, it makes sense that more car companies are listening to consumer demands and developing electric vehicles (EV). Aside from the convenience factor of never stepping foot near a gas station again, EVs represent a commitment to improved environmental stewardship.

Tesla has received tons of buzz since rocketing into the automotive world 10 years ago with the first all-electric car. Since then, several other carmakers have gotten in on the action, but none quite so legendary as Jaguar. Brands like Tesla and Jaguar have designed sophisticated electric SUVs brimming with luxurious amenities and groundbreaking technology. Let's take a closer look at the 2018 Tesla Model X and the 2019 Jaguar I-Pace.

Performance

As you would expect from Jaguar's 100 years of designing impressive driving machines, this deep experience results in a dynamic, thrilling performance in the zero-emissions I-Pace. As opposed to a traditional gas engine, the Jaguar is powered by a 90 kWh battery that provides a stunning 394 horsepower and 512 pound-feet of torque. A full charge will take you 234 miles.

With its built-in all-wheel-drive traction, the I-Pace can go from 0 to 60 in just 4.5 seconds. Borrowing design features from its sister company, Land Rover, the Jaguar offers incredible traction and driveability on every twist and turn.

The Tesla Model X is also equipped with all-wheel drive. The standard base model provides 237 miles of range and is powered by a 75 kWh battery that hits 60 mph in 4.9 seconds. It churns out 328 horsepower and 378 pound-feet of torque. A 100 kWh battery gets you 295 miles before a recharge and tops 60 mph in 4.7 seconds. If speed is your primary concern, Tesla's most expensive model, the P100D, will take you from 0 to 60 in a staggering 2.9 seconds.

Luxury & Convenience

When you are talking about EVs, the amount of time it takes to charge your car's battery becomes a significant convenience metric. The I-Pace offers an optional home charger that can fully recharge the vehicle overnight. The I-Pace is equipped to utilize 100 kWh DC fast charging, meaning a public DC charger can get your vehicle from a 0 to 80 percent charge in as little as 40 minutes.

Tesla offers similar charging times for the Model X and has its own network of "Supercharger" throughout the country. The first 1,000 miles of charging is free at Tesla stations, after which you must pay a fee.

Pricing

Of course, there is a price for such incredible technology and performance. The base S trim I-Pace has an MSRP of $69,500. The MSRP of the Tesla Model X with a 74 kWh battery is $79,500.

Deciding between cars like the Tesla Model X and the Jaguar I-Pace can be a challenge. While Tesla has become a household name in the EV world, Jaguar is hot on its tail with more than a century of car-making expertise, powerful features, and a significantly lower price tag. Experience the feeling of an EV Jaguar today at Hennessy Jaguar North Atlanta.
